Introducing the MELT Series and THC-O to the Eighty Six family!

Introducing the MELT Series and THC-O to the Eighty Six family!

After Delta-8 products started flooding the market, consumer realized that THC comes in many shapes and sizes. Not just the Delta-9 THC abundant in marijuana - the cannabinoid that is THC is so much more versatile than that. One form of THC that doesn't have enough spotlight is THC-O.

Before jumping into the meat and potatoes of this guide, you may not have even heard of THC-O yourself; as it's a THC analog that's certainly worth giving your attention. What is THC-O? How does it differ from Delta-8 as both are hemp-derived? And how would this newer THC analog differ from Delta-9 THC?

We want to explore the legality behind THC-O, present what it brings to the table, and brag about its effects. On top of that, we just dropped a new collection called the MELT Series that includes a generous helping of THC-O to further push the envelope of getting elevated.

WHAT IS THC-O?

Often referred to as just THC-O, THC-O Acetate is a synthetic cannabinoid derived from hemp. Across the U.S, in states where traditional Delta-9 THC is illegal, THC-O is already making waves in popularity. A cutting-edge form of THC, it carries euphoric, almost psychedelic effects that are typically associated with heavy amounts of cannabis use.

Beyond providing a psychoactive high, though, THC-O also has a potential for managing various symptoms. THC-O acts very much like most cannabis and hemp-derived compounds, providing a full-bodied experience beyond just the psychoactive high it consistently delivers.

Now, you might be thinking - how is THC-O different from traditional Delta-9? If it gets you just as high if not, more high than weed, can also be used to manage a wide variety of life problems, and be universally consumed through everything that it's usually sold as, what's the difference? Don't worry - we'll explain it all.

A bit of history, first - in 1949, the U.S. military observed cannabinoids' effects of dogs' muscle coordination. For reference, we also know now that THC, in general, causes a very negative reaction on most dogs. It should be unsurprising to learn THC-O showed much of the same results on our furry friends. Even after that, the DEA didn't take notice of THC-O until 1978. Since it wasn't a growing problem, the federal agency put the topic to rest. So where does that leave THC-O? Well, seeing that it's out and about and getting more popular, we can thank the DEA for that!

THE LEGAL QUAGMIRE OF DELTA-9 GIVES RISE TO ALTERNATIVES

The traditional form of THC is known as Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol, or Delta-9 THC, for short. You may be familiar with it already, as it's the active ingredient in cannabis and have likely consumed your fair share of it. Due to decades of unnecessary prohibition, Delta-9 and cannabis in generally still remain federally illegal. And even as 18 states have legalized it in some form, most of the country still prosecutes people for possession and consumption it.

With what feels like a long way to go until federal legalization, users in illegal states still seek an alternative - hence, the popularization of Delta-8, HHC, and now, THC-O!

THE LEGALITY OF THC-O

That brings us to a big question we're asked: is THC-O legal, too? The short answer is yes - technically. Largely, it appears THC-O's legality rests on who you ask. Federally, and as far as 38 states are concerned, THC-O is legal. This is thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill that legalized industrial hemp and its derivatives.

However, there are always those out there that want to crush the party. These experts might cite the 1986 Federal Analogue Act against THC-O, claiming anything that could be considered as analogous to a Schedule I drug is, technically, also a Schedule I drug. For this case, the illegal substance in question is conventional Delta-9 THC.

It is worth mentioning that this argument only works if you refuse to acknowledge the differences between the forms of THC. Similarly, nay-sayers could cite the act from 1986 regarding Delta-8, HHC, and even CBD! In reality, cannabinoids can only be analogous with each other to a certain degree. But what do we know? We're not lawmakers or attorneys.

IS THC-O SAFE?

This might be a loaded question. Similar to its legality, THC-O's safety will depend on who you ask. Spice and K2 are also synthetic versions of THC, largely popularized in the early 2000s. These synthetic knockoffs, however, aren't related to any naturally-occurring phytocannabinoid. Chemically, spice, K2 and other synthetic drugs have nothing in common with cannabis.

Unfortunately, ever since those days, a "synthetic cannabinoid" might invoke a bit of hesitancy. Before you sign off on THC-O, however, it's worth knowing the differences.

First, and most importantly, THC-O shares a similar chemical makeup to both Delta-9 THC and Delta-8. Unlike K2 or spice, you can derive these cannabinoids from both the cannabis and hemp plants. That helps lean THC-O towards the "safe" side of the spectrum right from the get-go.

An interesting note to consider is that THC-O is not a cannabinoid that should be smoked. Instead, it should be metabolized and vaped or eaten as an edible.

When you're using cannabis or hemp products for other health-related symptoms, building a tolerance to its effects can be frustrating. THC-O products may benefit those users more readily in situations like these.

In summary, there's no clinical data or evidence showing that THC-O is unsafe or particularly dangerous. That also means, however, that there's no clinical data or evidence suggesting that THC-O is safe. Proceed with caution if you do choose to experiment with this new cannabinoid.

HOW IS THC-O MADE?

We've mentioned already that THC-O is a derivative from cannabis. It does not, however, simply get extracted from the plant in the same way that Delta-8 and CBD do. Instead, through a stringent and advanced extraction and conversion process can a company such as Eighty Six Brand produce consistently potent and pure THC-O.

To keep it generalized, THC-O is made like this: first, we extract CBD from industrial hemp, which inherently contains less than the 0.3% Delta-9 THC legal limit as mandated by law. From that CBD, we extract Delta-8 THC and add acetic anhydride, an organic solvent to effectively remove the properties Delta-8 exhibits and leaves us with THC-O.

THC-O, in its purest form, is odor-free and flavorless; and often as viscous as motor oil. Potency-wise, it's one of the strongest concentrates on earth. So again, should you choose to try this, handle it with care.

HOW DOES THC-O DIFFER FROM DELTA-8?

You may think that because Delta-8 and Delta-10 THC aren't as potent as regular THC, THC-O would be more of the same, right? Well, that's not right. THC-O is one of the most potent cannabinoids in existence. It's so potent that even the most seasoned stoners get slapped silly with this. Researchers observe it being at least three times stronger than traditional Delta-9 THC. And users report that our new-favorite cannabinoid can provide such strong effects that it borders on a hallucinogenic trip. While anecdotal, it's important to note just how strong THC-O is in comparison to other cannabinoids we already know and love.

A person's cannabis tolerance, age, size, lifestyle, and other factors will play a role on THC-O's effects. For many, a Delta-8 high is mild, for others that may dabble in the world of Delta-10 report a sativa-like cerebral high. THC-O, however, stands in a league of its own; offering a high that's possibly stronger, if not, entirely stronger than a dab!

Since THC-O is such a potent cannabinoid and the experience borderlines a hallucinogenic experience, we wanted to truly embrace those properties. "Melt" is a phrase often used in the psilocybin community for tripping, or the act of being high on the mushrooms. Will you feel as if you are melting while on THC-O? Probably not, but it might happen! Just remember that if you ever feel "too high" from THC-O or any cannabinoid for that matter, that it's all temporary and will pass. If you need extra help, you can check out our guide on how to manage yourself being too high.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A THC-O HIGH

Speaking of the psychoactive high associated with THC-O, cannabis products with insane potencies already exist in the market today. Wax, oil, shatter, and other concentrates, including that of our Delta-8 Syringes have paved the way for THC-O. And just like those concentrates, it isn't hard to overdo it. The risk of a bad trip does exist, however, the trip itself is all relative to the user.

So as far as what to expect from such a high, we asked our Marketing Director and Sales Director who already incorporate an assortment of cannabis products into their lives to try the MELT collection. Let's call them R and C, respectively.

According to R, he took Sunday Scaries as his MELT disposable for the night. And after taking a generous 5 hits from it, the onset only took about 10 minutes and did not report being too high. Nevertheless, it was incredibly strong and advises users to pre-load movies in your streaming platform of choice otherwise you'll be lost simply finding something to spend your high on.

As for C, he took White Fluff for his nightly cannabis routine. He also reported the same, experiencing a more-than-normal high. And as an experienced and regular user of dabs, the high generated from THC-O was on par with cannabis concentrates.

Again, the high associated with THC-O is incredibly strong, however, it is inaccurate to automatically pool it in the same category as a hallucinogenic. Since both R and C are seasoned cannabis users, they understand dosing and started with a low dose before gradually increasing. One way to guarantee enjoyment from this cannabinoid is to do the same. Besides, the best part of toking up is the dosing journey. So have fun with it!

SHOULD YOU TRY IT?

This question comes down to you as an individual. Based on your own preferences, how does THC-O sound to you? Are you interested in giving it a try? Maybe now you've discovered that THC-O will be your next experimental hemp-derived product. There's still much to learn about the cannabinoid, but we hope we could get your started in this guide today.
